Author Policies

 

Reporting Standards

Original research’s report authors should present an accurate account of work along with its discussed significant objective. Underlying data should be presented accurately in the paper. The article should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or inaccurate faulty statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

 

Originality and Plagiarism

The authors should ensure that the work is authentic and original. If the authors have used work/word of other authors, it has to be appropriately cited or quoted.

 

Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication

An author should not, in general, publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

 

Acknowledgment of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others is crucial. Authors should cite publications that have played an influential role in determining the nature of the reported work.

 

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be provided to those who have made the significant contribution, and as well substantively in the research. They should be listed as co-author(s). The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication. The number of authors must be limited to four (4). An author can publish one article in an issue, then have another article published after skipping one issue.

 

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or substantive conflict of interest that might have construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

 

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her published work, it is author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

 

Author Guidelines

 

Muallim Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (MJSSH) is an electronic peer review open access journal. Authors should submit their contributions electronically through the Journal website submission system.

 

Papers submitted for publication should describe high quality original work, not previously partially or fully published elsewhere MJSSH research areas are Language and Literature, Education, Ethnic Relations, Historical and Civilization Studies, Sociology and Anthropology, Arts and Culture, Social and Economic Development, Psychology and Human Development, Politics and Governance, Philosophy and Media Communications.

 

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION:

Manuscripts of original research should include introduction, methods, results and discussion sections. Articles often need subheadings within these sections to further their content. Note: Manuscripts of Case reports may be less structured.

 

The following general requirements are required for reporting within sections of all study designs and manuscript formats.

General Document Guidelines

 

Authors must obey these rules as listed:

  • The article must not exceed 7000 words, inclusive of tables and figures.
  • Margins should be one inch on all sides (top, bottom, left, right)
  • Font Size and Type should be 12-pt, Times New Roman font
  • Line Spacing should single throughout the paper including the title page, abstract, body of the document, references, appendixes, footnotes, tables, and figures.
  • Paragraph Indentation should be 10-12 spaces.
  • Pagination where the page number should appear at the center and bottom of the page. Please follow as per published by in MJSSH

 

Title

 

  • The title can contain a maximum of 20 words.
  • Font Size: Manuscripts must be typed with a font Times New Roman of 12pt. In the compatible MS-word format. (.doc and .docx are accepted).
  • Paper Size and Margins: Manuscripts must be prepared in a size A4 (i.e. 210 x 297 mm) with 2.5cm (1 inch) margins on all four sides.
  • Paper Title: Uppercase letters, centered on the page.
  • Author(s): Title case letters, centered on the line following the author(s).
  • Institutional affiliation: Title case letters, centered on the line following the author(s).
  • Any title in Tamil or Malay Language must be made bilingual, Tamil-English or Malay-English.
  • Example:
  • Malay Title: Pemikiran Kritis Dalam Karya Thirukkural
  • Translation in English: Critical Thinking in Text Thirukkural

 

  • Tamil Title: திருக்குறளில் ஆய்வுச் சிந்தனை
  • Translation in English: Critical Thinking in Text Thirukkural

 

Abstract

 

  • Paragraph: The abstract is a one-paragraph, self-contained the summary of the most important elements of the paper.
  • Format: The abstract (in block format) begins on the line following the Abstract heading. The abstract word limit is set by individual journals. Typically, the word limit is between 100 and 250 words. All numbers in the abstract (except those beginning a sentence) should be typed as digits rather than words.
  • Abstract must include aim/objectives, methodology, results, and conclusion.
  • 3 to 6 key terms representing the main content of the manuscript can be given which are frequently used in the manuscript.
  • Abstract and keywords in Tamil or Malay Language must be bilingual Tamil-English or Malay-English.

 

Body

 

  • Font Size and Type: 12-pt. Times New Roman font for English and Malay Language. For Tamil language font Arial Unicode MS size 12-pt. Tamil articles must be typed in Unicode font, not in regular fonts.
  • Line Spacing: Single throughout the paper, including the title page, abstract, body of the Document, references, appendixes, footnotes, tables, and figures.
  • Paragraph Indentation: 10-12 spaces
  • Footnotes are not permitted in the article.
  • The article, tables, and figures must comply with APA 7.0 formatting guidelines.

 

Introduction:

  • Author Should Provide the background of the study, state the specific purpose or study objective and cite only references from previous studies but should not include data or conclusion from work being reported.

 

Methods

  • The method of study should clearly explain why and how the study has been conducted.
  • The section should include only information that was available at the time of plan or protocol for the study was being written.
  • The author should state the selection of participants, eligibility and exclusive criteria, and source of population, Objectives of the study, outcome measures and procedure.
  • Provide references to established methods and give the description of new or modified methods and give the reason for using them if ever so.
  • Describe statistical methods, if possible quantify findings and present them with appropriate indicators of measurement errors.
  • Define statistical terms, abbreviations, and symbols.
  • Specify the statistical software package used for the study and versions used.

 

Results

  • The authors are advised to summarize the most important findings first and to avoid the repetition of results in text, tables, and figures.
  • Text for results should be in sequence with the tables and figures used. Specify the statistical significance of each finding.

 

Text citations

 

  • In APA 7.0 style, in-text citations are placed within sentences and paragraphs so that it is clear what information is being quoted or paraphrased and whose information is being cited.
  • Examples: (Simon, 1945); (Leiter & Maslach, 1998); (Ponniah, 2017; கார்த்திகேஸ், 2020 & Halim, 2008)

 

References

 

  • Minimum of 10 references are required. Only those references which were cited in the article can be listed under the References section.
  • References from Scopus journals and Web of Science are highly recommended. Please refer at least one or two citations from Scopus or WoS journals.
  • References must follow the numerical order. This number must follow the Superscript format for the citation writing. Example…. (Anantham, 2019)
  • Please refer to the download section for further guidelines and examples.
  • All sources included in the References section must be cited in the body of the paper (and all sources cited in the paper must be included in the References section)
  • Format: The references (with hanging indent) begin on the line following the References heading. Entries are organized alphabetically by surnames of first authors. Most reference entries have the following component:
  • Authors: Authors are listed in the same order as specified in the source, using surnames and initials. Commas separate all authors. When there are eight or more authors, list the first six authors followed by three ellipses (…) and then the final author. If no author is identified, the title of the document begins the Reference.
  • Year of Publication: In parentheses following authors, with a period following the closing parenthesis. If no publication date is identified, use “n.d.” in Parentheses following the authors.
  • Source Reference: Includes title, journal, volume, pages (for a journal article) or Title, the city of publication, publisher (for the book). Italicize titles of books, titles of Periodical volume numbers.

Tables

In APA format, tables and figures are both numbered consecutively in the order they appear in the text. Each table and figure should have a clear and concise title that describes its content.

  1. Table number and title are placed above the table, aligned left.
  2. Use a brief, descriptive title for the table.
  3. Column and row headings should be clear and concise.
  4. Include horizontal lines above and below column headings, beneath the table title, and at the bottom of the table.
  5. Use horizontal lines sparingly within the table, only to clarify structure.

 

Figures

  1. Figure number and title are placed below the figure, aligned left.
  2. Use a brief, descriptive title for the figure.
  3. Ensure that text within the figure is legible and of appropriate size.

 

Illustrations

 

  • Digital images of manuscript illustrations should be submitted in JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP formats.
  • For X-ray films, scans, and other diagnostic images, as well as pictures of exercises, send high-resolution photographic image files.
  • Pictures should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they have been cited in the text.
  • Figure 1. If a Picture has been published previously, acknowledge the source and submit written permission from the copyright holder to reproduce it.

By the definition of the Budapest Open Access Initiative, all content published by the MJSSH is made free to users without any subscription or other charges. Muallim Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (MJSSH) publishes all its journals in a fully open access format which is easily accessible throughout the world for the scientific community. The collection of Manuscript Processing Charges from the author or authors' Institute or research funding bodies/sources is that MJSSH does not have any other source of income, and it needs to cover the cost of the production and its maintenance. There are no submission charges.
