Usage of the news maker software in improving students’ reading skill [செய்தி தயாரிப்புச் செயலி வழி மாணவர்களின் வாசிப்புத் திறனை மேம்படுத்துதல்]

In today’s world of constant technological advancement, the lifestyle and needs of the humans are ever-changing. Therefore, it is important to implement new teaching and learning techniques relevant to this technological era. Nowadays, it is seen that the reading skills among students are deteriorated. Due to this situation, the students may undergo many reading problems. In order to solve this issue, there is a need for an appropriate solution. Those problems were looked upon and solved in this research. This research was carried out on the Form 2 students’ reading problems which was gradually solved by the use of ‘News Maker’ software program. This research was conducted using a mixed-method approach. Sample participants of 15 students were involved in this study. Those 15 students were divided into three groups. 5 of them were grouped as the control group while another 5 of the students were the taken as the treatment group. The remaining 5 students, who were highly proficient with no apparent reading problems, were discarded from the research study. The study itself was carried out throughout a period of 2 months. This research was carried out in SMK Taman Jasmin 2 located in Kajang, Selangor. The research method for this study includes pre and post testing, semi-structured interviews and observations. This research had shown significant improvement on the reading skills of the Form 2 students.
