Abstract

Dalam abad ke-21, murid lebih teruja untuk meneroka dan meningkatkan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan wadah Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi, ringkasnya ICT. Pendekatan pembelajaran yang menggunakan ICT biasanya merangsang pembelajaran secara aktif dalam kalangan murid. Kertas kajian ini menjelaskan pengalaman Singapura menuil penggunaan ICT dalam pembelajaran bahasa Melayu khususnya dalam merangsang pembelajaran kosa kata murid. Sesuai dengan kecenderungan murid yang suka kepada unsur permainan dalam proses pembelajaran, Pusat Bahasa Melayu Singapura (MLCS)  telah membina Aplikasi Bitara Kata untuk merangsang pembelajaran bahasa Melayu dalam kalangan murid. Menerusi konsep permainan dalam proses pembelajaran, uji cuba telah dijalankan di lima buah sekolah melibatkan 108 murid untuk meneliti keberkesanan Aplikasi Bitara Kata (ABK) dalam merangsang pembelajaran kosa kata murid. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa kosa kata murid meningkat dan murid berasa teruja dan seronok mengikuti pelajaran menggunakan aplikasi tersebut. Menerusi penggunaan aplikasi itu, pembelajaran boleh berlaku pada bila-bila masa dan di mana-mana jua mengikut keselesaan, kesediaan dan keperluan pembelajaran murid. Aplikasi ini boleh diakses secara percuma oleh semua pengguna bahasa Melayu menerusi sesawang maya dan ia menyokong usaha ke arah pemerkasaan dan pelestarian bahasa Melayu dalam dunia tanpa sempadan. Sejauh ini Aplikasi Bitara Kata telah dimuat turun lebih daripada 15,500 kali oleh pengguna dari seluruh dunia.

[In the 21st Century, students are more enthuse to explore and enhane their learning using Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Learning aproaches that utilise ICT usually motivate learners to participate actively is learning amongst students. This paper explains the experience of Singapore leveraging on ICT in Malay language (ML) teaching and learning in particular in the learning of ML vocabulary. Students like the element of games in learning. For this purposes, Malay Language Centre of Singapore (MLCS) developed Bitara Kata or Unique Vocabulary App to motivate learners in the learning of ML vocabulary. Five schoools and 89 students were involved in the trialling of the App to investigae the effectiveness of the App in enhancing the learning of ML vocabulary among students. The findings of the trialling showed that students’ vocabulary increased. Students could learn and assess the App anytime and anywhere according to students’ pace of learning and comforts. This App be accessed and downloaded for free by students, teachers, parents and anyone. Thus far, the App has been downloaded more than 15,500 users from all over the world.]
